shopping mall renovation

This is a preliminar study for the renovation of an historical shopping mall in Istanbul. This is placed right in the middle of Istiklal Caddesi, one of the most important pedestrian street in the eastern part of the city.

The existing mall has been renovated few years ago but the main problem remains: the distribution and the fact that the building, beside faces Istiklal Caddesi, is extremely introvert and do not opens to the public.

The project main purpose is to eliminate all the ground floors barriers that obstacle the potential flow and rationalize the distribution system.

The ground floor will host restaurants and cafés, along with sitting spots, a performance theatre and a exposition area.

The mezzanine floor allow also to increase the visual connection between each level.

On the upper level, that is now empty, will be placed a market place with sitting spots. People can relax here, while eating and drinking a typical cay.

The variety of function inside the mall and the visual connection between each floor allows the flow to enjoy the space from the ground floor until the roof top.
